Dear Friends:

Happy 2017!

This year we will expand our efforts to create high-quality early education opportunities for children and families across Miami-Dade and Monroe.  In January we will celebrate early literacy and its benefits to children, families and the larger community. Early literacy equates to the creation of strong communications skills, social-emotional development, and intellectual curiosity.  The 2017 Celebrate Literacy Week theme is: “Literacy Changes Our World”!

The two selected books are “I Don’t Want to Be a Frog” for preschool-aged children and “From Head to Toe” for infants and toddlers. We encourage families and early education providers to join us for a statewide simultaneous reading on January 25, 2017 at 9:00 am.  The readings will be held across the state of Florida and in a wide variety of early learning program locations throughout Miami-Dade and Monroe.

We are also pleased to announce that the Early Learning Coalition of Miami-Dade/Monroe will kick-off its 2017 series of lunch cafes by looking at the impact of Human Trafficking on South Florida’s communities.  We invite you to join us for lunch, conversation, and change. This event is open to the public and free of charge.  The event requires registration via our Professional Development website: trainings.elcmdm.org

On January 16, 2017, the Early Learning Coalition of Miami-Dade/Monroe encourages everyone to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. by participating in a day of service.  For ideas on service activities or to register you day of service project, please visit  www.nationalservice.gov/mlkday

We thank you and look forward to our continued partnership in 2017.

Regards,

Evelio C. Torres
President & CEO

The Early Learning Coalition of Miami-Dade/Monroe is a nonprofit organization dedicated to ensuring early care and education for children in Miami-Dade and Monroe counties. Through a variety of affordable and innovative early education and voluntary pre-kindergarten programs, the Coalition serves more than 50,000 children ages birth to 12 years old and their families.

Founded in 2000, the Coalition is among 30 similar organizations in the State of Florida established following the enactment of the School Readiness Act, which consolidated Florida’s early learning services into one integrated program.
